Emergency Management

The types of events that can be called emergencies or disasters vary depending on the impact of these events or the degree of damage, and the resources available to cope with the events.

When individuals don’t have the necessary resources to cope with an emergency, they call 911.  When the 911 First Responders don’t have enough resources to cope with an emergency they call REMO. REMO may require assistance from the provincial and federal governments in large scale disasters.

Emergency management is the process of bridging the gap between an abnormal event and available resources.  This process involves Prevention, Preparedness, Response, and Recovery activities.
